The Long Bio

Porterbeatz, known as porter most of his musical life, gravitated to music fairly early at age 12.  After eschewing any other hobby or activity throughout his teen years, he did nothing but write and produce music with a Tascam 4-track recorder.

Before his senior high school year Porterbeatz attended a 6-week summer program at Berklee college of music in boston. After high school he attended USC in Los Angeles where he earned a bachelors of science 'music industry' degree a year early in 3 years.

After working some menial jobs after college, PorterBeatz landed a gofer position job at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.  Fantasy Studios was one of the largest commercial facilities in Northern California housing 4 large studio rooms, with one Neve, one Trident, and two SSL recording consoles, There he was first exposed to the high end world of Pro-Audio.  The experience solidified his love for the art and science of recording.  After learning all he could at Fantasy he was offered a job as beat maker / writer / associate producer to Narada Michael Walden at his Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California.  While working with Narada, Porter co-wrote and helped produce for The Temptations. After Tarpan Studios Porter was featured in Future Music magazine and met / interviewed with Walter Afanasieff but ended up pursuing music on his own from that point on.

After a quarter life crisis, and his mental health deteriorating, Porter put music on the shelf to make ends meet and music was put on hold for a few years.  But the music kept calling, and soon thereafter Porter was back at it.  He bought a house and moved to the high desert in southern California, where he upgraded his studio and began a prolific era of his musical journey.  Soon after, Porter performed his first gig ever at The Viper Room in Hollywood, Californa.  Porter had begun to extensively write and produce for, and perform with, singer Jaymie Elliott.  They formed a musical partnership / friendship and soon both moved to North Hollywood, California.

This began an intense period of performing and producing.  He built a studio in a rehearsal facility in the heart of the NoHo Arts District, and put a live band together.  The band consisted of Porter on vocals and guitar, Jaymie Elliott on vocals, perfect pitch musical genius Oleg Ginzburg on keys, and Matt on Drums.  They performed throughout the Los Angeles area, including The Whisky a Go Go, The Roxy, The House of Blues and had a residency at Skinny's Lounge in NoHo.  After their last gig at The Good Hurt, their keyboard player (and Porter's best friend) Oleg Ginzburg, was sent back to Russia and barred from returning to America for 10 years.  This brought about another extremely dark period of little to no music making with many trials and tribulations.

Eventually, and randomly, Porter ended up renting a home on his Los Angeles property to producer extraordinaire, Lido.   and through that quiet influence, he found the fire returning to immerse himself back into his music.  Again, Porter updated his studio completely, this time sparing no expense.

Music technology had come so far since Porter began his musical journey, with his 4-track recorder.  He began producing in Ableton Live and now thoroughly enjoyed the process versus the tedious nature that producing in Pro Tools had become.

Porter, reborn as PorterBeatz, now writes and produces music purely for the art of it.  He can't get enough of the writing, the producing, the technology and indeed the entire process.  In this recent period he met his fiance, Bruna, whom had recently immigrated to America from Brazil.  PorterBeatz prioritized his mental health and found a much more joyful process of pursuing music than he had ever felt before.  That is where he is now.
